Another year another roundup! I thought I would sum up in one long post what went down in 2014 in terms of hiking. I don’t think I’ll be out again this year so I might as well hit publish on this one. 19/24. Not amazing but at least by breaking it down month by month I see what was up. Hint: it wasn’t me.
January:

Hey man, this one started January 1st. Broke out of my non hiking rut and took a hike/walk with the husband in Half Moon Bay. Yeah, the trail was paved but the views were awesome and it was a brilliant start to the new year. Then I went up to Marin! It was all crazy in January. The drought was in full force. Briones was a weird beige colour instead of green. Oh well.
February:

The inland farmers had their water rations kicked down to 0. Yes, zero. We needed rain desperately. You can see it in the hikes themselves, they are all so very dry and we’re all hoping that fire doesn’t take over.
March:

I meant to do Quarry Lakes with my husband since it is flat and easy, but last minute I went by myself. Hey, I deserve and easy one once in awhile right?
April:
Oops. Houseguests, Easter, Passover… I had a lot of excuses, and 0 hikes.
May:

I really felt the lack of hikes or walks in April so I started off May with a walk with the husband down in San Jose. Trying to drag him out of the house more, it would be cool if we could ride to places like this but nowhere to store gear! Oh well. It was a nice afternoon. Near the end of the month I pushed myself and went to Edgewood (it’s so close) got sick at the mile marker and turned around. Ugh.
June, July:
I focused on tennis to be honest. The weather was fine, drought was still in full effect, I just didn’t feel like getting off the couch past tennis and yoga.
August:

Well then, 16 more hikes had to be fit into this year for my goal, and I noticed on August 21st. Oops. Kind of got me to get my act in gear though!
September:

I was super busy in September. The weather was fine for hiking but work was stressful. I didn’t get far from home at all but at least I went out. I went to Huddart after a doctors appointment, that was a nice way to end a weekday. I wish I could take more weekday hikes but Q4 is not the time to think of those things.
October:

October was okay. I was busy so there were some local hikes but I went out at least. I’ve figured out it’s really hard for me to take time on the weekends for hiking, and I felt the goal looming and with work stress it was just starting to get depressing.
November:

Oh November. It’s when I realized I wasn’t going to hit my goal. And I was bummed about it and I was so tired. I didn’t want to move at all, and the rain started (only on the weekends of course). So it’s lucky I got in the one hike I did. I joined the YMCA and tried to go a few times a week. I also started to work on a plan for next year, but I wasn’t giving up just yet!
December:

The least I could do was beat last year right? Ugh. We went up to Marin and it was my first hike/walk with someone non-husband and it was nice. No pressure of course and the husband was there too. Then I went back but just for a quickie. Gas is cheap in Marin! Hard to resist, minus the fact it takes me over an hour just to get to the other side of the bridge. Heh.
