When I saw the recipe for Watermelon Sorbet in Vegan A La Mode there was no way I wasn’t making it. I had a pretty crummy experience with watermelon sorbet on a past ice cream crawl (yes, seriously, an ice cream crawl, with others who don’t do dairy!) and I was looking for redemption. Salted watermelon was totally off the list.
The recipe does call for salt, but not a ton. Plus, chocolate chips. I was more wary of the chocolate than the salt to be honest. The salt just blended in and the chocolate was actually a nice taste with the watermelon. I was pretty surprised, I assumed it was just for decoration to act as watermelon seeds. This one did turn out a bit icy though and was hard to scoop out of the container. Not a huge deal but it had a very short window to get cute scoops. It was either too hard or too slushy. I’m not saying it’s the recipe at all since this is the second time using the ice cream maker, it’s probably just learning the proper timing and quirks. I’m not really upset, the sorbet was darn tasty.
