Pumpkin. A flavour I can’t stand or I can’t get enough of. Got it? Yeah… it’s complicated. See, I love sweet items with pumpkin but I really don’t like savoury items with pumpkin. Add enough sugar and I’ll eat it and swoon. Add something savoury to the mix and I won’t even pick it up. We live 15 minutes away from a huge annual pumpkin festival in Half Moon Bay and I always go for the sweet. Mainly: pie and ice cream.
I found out about pumpkin ice cream years ago. It might as well be called pumpkin pie ice cream since it usually has all the same spice base. Pumpkin pie is my favourite pie anyway. So with hesitation I picked back up Vegan A La Mode and made the Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream recipe I had dog-eared. My kitchen was hot from baking and just the heat of the day (omg, it got to like 80!) so I think that my ice cream maker didn’t get a chance to fully churn the ice cream. It’s good but it’s not super creamy like some of my other flavours. Did I still try to hide it in the back of the freezer to keep to myself? You betcha! For those who have been keeping tally these past 16 days: Peach is still the winner!
