Yup. I went there. Strawberry cheesecake ice cream has a place in our hearts in this household. When we were first honeymooners (har har) on a trip back to Canada I took my husband to Stoney Creek Dairy. I grew up on it, and it was always a treat to go down to the shop and pick up a treat. We would drive from wherever we were, it was what was done in the summer heat.
So I took my husband in between a wedding and a reception to Stoney Creek Dairy. It was kind of on the way to the reception and we had to celebrate! He got the strawberry cheesecake and was blown over. It was so fresh and tasty that he just fell in love. Whenever we jumped back up to Canada we always tried our hardest to get back there. They didn’t always have a cheesecake flavour though, so disappointing.
My version is from Vegan A La Mode. It has a coconut milk base but also has cream cheese and sour cream. I used strawberry agave nectar since I had some but I must have added too much with the sweetness of the jam because it turned out way too sweet. I wasn’t sure if the base would mellow out once it was churned but it didn’t. A good learning experience.
