The theme this week is street food! I’m super lucky to live in an area of the country that is super saturated with street eats. From people selling at the farmers market to carts and trucks on the street. I even review food trucks here!
So I was trying to think of something I see a lot of… that wasn’t something really expected. Every farmers market I’ve been to out here has a kettle corn guy. Every. Single. One. Seriously.
Fresh and hot it brings the crowds. But it’s so easy to make. You should try it! My version is sweet with a bit of salt. I think it needs it for balance. Go ahead and get a big pot out of the cupboard and try not to eat the whole batch.

Kettle Corn Recipe
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp salt
Instructions
- Add the vegetable oil to a large pot with a lid. Add 3 popcorn kernels to the oil and set at a medium-high heat.
- Once the 3 kernels have popped add the rest of the kernels and the sugar. Cover and shake the pan until the popping slows down, about 3 minutes.
- Remove from the heat and toss with the salt. Pour into a large bowl and serve.

Another great pick for street food and one of my daughter’s favorite treats. We always get this when we go to the farmer’s!! She has braces on now and is so sad she can’t have it anymore. Well maybe just a couple pieces won’t hurt!!
I’ve always wanted to know how kettle corn was made! I love it! Thanks for sharing!
Sweet with a little salt is the perfect kettle corn, Shannon! I had no idea it was so easy to make though and I certainly would never have thought to throw the sugar in BEFORE the corn popped! I’ll be trying this soon. Thank you!

I love kettle corn! This is amazing, thank you for posting!
Yum, I love kettle corn – especially in the fall, which will be here before we know it 🙂
I’ve never been brave enough to make kettle corn at home. I watched someone ruin a pan (and caught it on fire) so it has always made me hesitant. But I should put the fear aside and give it a try. It is so good after all.
Ooh! Warm kettle corn is the best! I like that you added some salt to round out the sweet. Delish!
