Pluots are weird. I’ve never had one that wasn’t pure red but hey I’m in California and was craving stone fruit. It is funny that I picked them up because I’m not a huge fan of plums, unless they are dry. I know, I’m really weird. Prunes in excess also don’t cause me gastro distress either, in case you were wondering. However, I do really love apricots but find them mealy a lot so I pick up pluots when I see them.
Sometimes I get weirded out eating hybrid fruits, but they have been around a long time and aren’t a weird Monsanto creation. Plus, it is the best of the plum world and the best of the apricot. How I’ve been eating them? With coconut milk yogurt, stewed rhubarb and cinnamon for breakfast. Hello. So good. That could be my love of rhubarb talking, but it was a good pair. Maybe pluot rhubarb pie? I have to think about this, they have such a short season!
