I was really inspired and ready to go on a hike after I posted about my 365 miles goal. Yeah. Well, as usual I got directionally challenged getting to Castle Rock State Park. I drove almost around the whole damn thing. Google maps steered me wrong, and I missed the huge entrance. The trailhead was in the parking lot and it took me awhile to find it. Figured it out, obviously.
The trail was super pretty and I was still pretty happy. I was going downhill and it was a nice day. I was a bit hungry but decided to wait for lunch for a bit. Things kind of started to go “downhill” from there. I took the wrong turn and ended up climbing over huge rock formations and well, it was a lot more strenuous than I thought it would be. Kind of kicked my ass honestly. Huge rock formations, sun, and inclines. I’m pretty newb as I said before so I don’t think I was ready for a moderate hike.
There are a ton of mountain climbers at this park. As well as a campground (which I didn’t make it to) and there were a lot of people in the park. I was just a bit challenged by the hike so I cut it short at 3 miles. I probably shouldn’t have waited to eat lunch so long either, so that’s part of it. The other part is well, I kind of suck as a hiker. But I try, and that’s about as good as I can get.
Obviously a photo of me from close to the beginning of the hike. I wasn’t a happy camper less than a mile in. However, I think that this is a park I want to work up to again and do the trail as written instead of just wandering around the Saratoga Gap Trail. I did hit Goat Rock (1st rock picture above) but missed the waterfalls.
