Have you ever wondered what a full service book store would be like? Where the employees are willing to talk with you and help you with a purchase? They might even care about your preferences, not what Oprah is reading. Where if you are unable to make a signing event the employees will gladly mail you signed copies of the books you want and you can even send them YOUR copies to be signed? Yeah. That’s the Bay Book Company.
I think this is the husbands favourite book shop. We go to a LOT of book shops, even when traveling abroad and this is still his fave. I’m not dissing larger book store employees here (I was one of them) but these guys know their stuff. It used to be almost all sci-fi and fantasy but they have branched out. And they really want to help you. While the husband geeked out and compared authors and the book buyer got him set up with some new recommendations, he took the time to help me in the baking section. Cooking books were all 20% off and he even helped me there! He pays attention to his friends and family when it comes to recommendations so while he’s not a bread baker, he knows that the professional baker who comes in weekly recommends this and that. I also got suckered into a new vampire book, but I’ve just started a series, so it will be awhile until I crack it open.
Have I mentioned the service is amazing? I think it is great that they are breaking out into new genres. They had a lot of vegan books, but of course not the whole gamut. Not a big deal since I need to chill on the cookbook buying and well, they are very far away now. All in all, if you are in the bay area and like sci-fi and fantasy books, they should be on your list of places to visit. They are right off of Hwy 1 and easy to get to.
