I alternate grocery stores when I shop weekly. Most of the time it is at Whole Foods, then Trader Joes but I do go to Dierbergs (which is more expensive than WF for me, crazy huh?) when I need basics and Schnucks lastly if I’m being random. I just want to give a little bit of props to Dierbergs today because it looks like they are really trying. They actually had more “Home Grown” produce than WF and it was in much better condition. I picked up some heirloom tomatoes for my soup and they were very good. They honestly don’t have a wide variety organics, which makes it hard for me to shop there a lot. Well, let me take that back. They offer organics, which is something, it just isn’t as many as WF which is really convenient for me, and can be random. If I’m not buying organics, I’d rather buy from local farmers.
I grocery shop weekly and then I try to hit up at least one farmers market. This means, I only hit up one farmers market as I always have good plans to go on the weekend but I end up hiking or doing something else when the markets are open. I’m still a lazy Californian at heart who wishes her produce would magically appear at her doorstep. Oh well. I need to make a better effort to get out there and eat more local produce! Can you believe I’ve lived in St. Louis for so long and haven’t been to the Soulard Farmers Market? Â I need to change that. I also need to go to Tower Grove Market. Damn hiking schedule getting in the way!
